Podľa vlastných slov v nedávnej TV šou ukončila tento vzťah kvôli tomu, pretože ho nedokázala prestať spájať s jeho úlohou vo filme Mlčanie jahniat (1991). Hral tam sériového vraha Hannibala Lectera.
Martha Stewart v šou Ellen DeGeneres povedala, že po tom, čo videla Hopkinsa ako kanibala Hannibala Lectera, si ho už nedokázala predstaviť inak a bála sa ho vziať do svojho veľkého domu v Maine. Vyhlásila, že práve toto jej znemožnilo pokračovať vo vzťahu s ním.
Ellen DeGeneres jej na to provokatívne, ale so smiechom odpovedala, že je to podľa nej lož a neverí. Martha Stewart ale trvala na svojom. Ešte sa určite patrí dodať, že Anthony Hopkins za túto rolu získal Oscara (1992), ale zároveň tým teda prišiel o šancu na lásku s Marthou Stewart.
In Silence of the Lambs (1991) – When Sir Anthony Hopkins was studying for the character Hannibal Lecter, he noticed similar characteristics in reptiles. Reptiles only blink when they want to, & do it consciously. Therefore, in the movie, Hopkins only blinks in special moments and very consciously.
